BirdWatch helps you identify 43 different bird species by sight and sound. Listen to high-quality audio recordings of bird calls and songs and browse hundreds of pictures of the birds in their natural habitats and in flight. Unique image manipulation capabilities allow you to zoom, pan and rotate the images to allow you to match the view and orientation with the birds that you are seeing. You can also view several photos of the same species at once. Superb zoom allows you to get in close and pick up details in the birds' body and feathers. The high-quality audio recordings of the bird call also serve as excellent "white noise" to relax and soothe while at work, on the bus or train, or during leisure time.

3/5 stars

Not much help, really.

I don't think this app would provide much help with identifying birds in the field, especially compared with real birding handbooks or birding apps.

The photos are nice, but there is no information about identifying marks, behavior, ranges, habitats, breeding vs. non-breeding plumages, male vs. female plumages, similar species, etc.

All 4 featured swallows are lumped together in the photo section, but only 1 (unidentified) swallow recording is provided in the audio section.

Finally, while you can zoom, pan and rotate the photos, there is no way to get another view of the bird. They are not 3D images (to be fair, the dev isn't claiming that they are).

Overall, this app is okay if you just want to look at some pretty bird pictures and hear some bird songs. But it is of little or no value when birdwatching. I give it three stars.
